The Three Levels of Taichi
One of the most valuable aspects of Master Liao’s DVD teaching system is that it covers the full depth of Taichi learning, including the physical, mental and spiritual levels of Taichi:
1.) Physical Level
The physical level of Taichi includes how to breathe, how to stand, how to relax, how to move smoothly and evenly, how to start and end your practice, how to integrate your practice into your daily routine. Master Liao’s DVDs show you how to do the forms from several angles and include precise instructions on positioning, transitions between forms, and tips on how to practice to maximize Chi flow.
If you’re working on the physical level, or “How To” of Taichi, try the Single Form Series DVDs, or any of our other DVDs listed on "Where to Begin."
2.) Mental Level
Once you’ve learned how to move, it’s time to learn how to use your calm and pure mind to connect with your Chi and flow your Chi to make it stronger. Integrating your focused and concentrated mind with your Taichi movement is the path to increased Taichi benefits and Taichi power. Master Liao shows you the right way to use your mind to flow your Chi and the importance of thinking correctly as you approach your practice.
Key components of using your mind to feel and flow your Chi are covered in all of our material, but especially in the DVDs listed under "DVDs to Flow, Strengthen and Use Your Chi."
3.) Spiritual Level
In traditional Taichi temples, Taichi is a vehicle to bring you to the goal of spiritual progress and understanding. Chi is a gateway to reconnection with the Tao. Because of this, your practice can incorporate a spiritual dimension through meditation and a deep understanding of energy principles. With Master Liao’s DVDs, you can work toward to the goal of increasing your awareness of, and harmony with, the universe around you.
Principles that will help you understand the spiritual level of Taichi can be found throughout our collection, but especially in the Tao Journey Series, or the many books available from Master Liao.
